Move Me Like the Ocean- Kyle Reynolds

Kyle Reynolds is one of our awesome Wyldlife leaders.
He is also a very talented musician.
Kyle is leaving this next year to work on music full-time.

Kyle recently wrote a song that was inspired by his Young Life story.
I asked him to write up an explanation on how the song came about. Below is his response.....

"Young Life has been apart of my life ever since I can remember and I've recently been fortunate enough to start leading music at Young Life camps. After seeing so many kids lives changed last year while playing music at Oakbridge, whether it was during "Say So" or just talking to kids throughout the week and seeing the Lord totally change their hearts, I was inspired to write this song. This song is about the kid  who is sitting in the back of the club room. This song is about me, you, and the person who has decided to go all in regardless of what is ahead and what they've been through. I hope this song can be sung and listened to as a prayer asking God to move us like the ocean. I want to step out of my comfort zone and allow God to fill me up with His strength and courage; and not rely on my own. In the chorus it says Move Me Like the Ocean, Move Me Like the Ocean, I still have my doubts, but it's time to step out in the ocean. I think this is something we can wake up every morning and ask the Lord. Everyday we have the choice to step out in the ocean, the unknown, and trust the Lord. All we have to do is say yes."

The lyrics to the song are below along with a link to his iTunes account.
This month proceeds from the song will go back to Young Life. So take a moment and check out Kyle.

MOVE ME LIKE THE OCEAN

I know there’s  more to this at least that’s what I’ve been told
I feel alone and I’m so sick of it I need a place to call home

Can we forgive our past, lets go and not look back

move me like the ocean
Ocean
without a doubt you’re pulling me out of the ocean

Clouded by racing thoughts, I feel so far away
Told myself I’m doing fine, but was that just another lie to say

Can we forgive our past, lets go and not look back

move me like the ocean
Ocean
without a doubt you’re pulling me out of the ocean

move me like the ocean
Ocean
without a doubt you’re pulling me out of the ocean

Wyldlife- Marco Forester

Hello all I hope you're week is going well! Excited to share a little update about wyldlife club this week!
We introduced music to club and it was a blast! The kids loved it and we had a great old time.

One of our leaders plays guitar and piano so we were able to let loose and have some fun! We also had the pleasure of hearing one of our leaders Riley Murphy speak on my he is going to be gone doing missions work for the next six months.

He did a great job and we look forward to his return so he can share all that he has learned on his travels.

Capernaum Weekend Winter Camp 2013

Last weekend we had the opportunity to join close to 300 students at Young Life's Oakbridge camp in the San Diego mountains. We took 15 Capernaum students and leaders to experience a weekend full of fun and learning about the free gift God gave each of us on Christmas. A few highlights of the weekend include messy games (kids got to throw shaving cream at their leaders, what's not to like about that?!), dance parties during club, and cabin time where we had the chance to debrief together as a group and hear what our students thought about the message that was shared at club. It always blows my mind to see how differently each of us (and our students) connect with God. Hearing what our students had to say about how much they know God loves them and what was on their hearts was a personal highlight of mine. It really was a privilege to spend the weekend with our Capernaum students at winter camp.

Serving at a YL Camp

July 13- August 4th I was serving on assignment at lost canyon. Lost canyon is a young life camp in Arizona where we took kids about a month ago. I was blown away seeing the behind the scenes of camp. You can know that hundreds of people are volunteering in the summer, working very hard, to put camp together. All the work it takes is usually unnoticed yet the people are not discouraged. It is amazing to see so many people with servant hearts giving everything they have to see lost kids be found by Jesus.

One of my favorite parts had to be the young lives week. It is a young life camp for teen moms. The whole camp is turned upside down so each kid can experience "the best week of their life." We have strollers and high chairs everywhere. Child care workers paid the $500 to watch these babies all week for free. The Lord worked in huge ways. Generational bondage was broken that week. That is one of many examples of a normal week at a young life camp. Normal people going out of their way to make sure Jesus is shown to the last and the least. Each kid matters there. It is a little glimpse of heaven on earth. This experience made me love young life even more & very excited for the upcoming school year.

Dana's Last Club of 2013

About 2 weeks ago we had our last club of the year! I can't put into words how amazing this year has been. Despite normal life challenges and difficult circumstances, Jesus continually provided for our club and led us. He brought so many new faces to Young Life. We have 23 kids coming to camp this year, most have never been before! I am so excited to watch them fall in love with Jesus. I am praying they truly come to know him at camp in 2 weeks. We are so blessed, the kids showed up and now we have a fun adventure right around the corner!

To our donors, Thank you for all your support this year, we could not have done it with out the support of our amazing partners so THANK YOU for making this year possible! You have no idea what an impact you make, from $1 a month to $100. We are grateful for any prayer. It all matters. It all makes this possible. These kids have an opportunity to meet Jesus because of people like you! Thank you for showing them grace by believing in them. We could not do this without you.

Thank you,  thank you, THANK YOU!

All Area Leadership Camping Trip

In the beginning of April we had our leader camping trip! Most of us arrived in Santa Barbara on a Friday night, grabbed In n Out for dinner, and then went back to the site for s’mores and time around the campfire. We spent Saturday morning in prayer and then spent the rest of the day walking around the beach, exploring the surrounding areas, and relaxing at our campsites. Our Area Director, his wife and our committee chairs made us dinner that night – Chillie dogs and baked potatoes  - and we had a devotional around the fire. The rest of the night we hung out around the campfire, enjoying each other’s company. It was a great time to get away from the craziness that we have in our day-to-day lives, and spend time with the people we serve with.

Valentines Day With OC Capernaum

Last Wednesday, High Rollers and Capernaum Beyond met together to enjoy a Valentines day dinner. We started off the evening with making Valentines Day Cards and then spent the majority of the evening sharing a Valentines Day dinner together.
We were blessed to be served in a number of different ways, which made the evening possible. Parents, leaders and friends of Young Life donated pasta dishes, caesar salad, garlic bread, dessert, sparkling cider, and water bottles. We were also blessed to be served by a small group of high school girls from Saddleback Church, who prepared each plate, served our meals and waited on them.
This made the evening especially nice because it enabled leaders to share and enjoy the meal with our friends. A little something extra was given to us when a barbershop quartet happened to be at the church and volunteered to sing a few numbers for us! It was quite the treat.
And what would Valentines day be without a few smooth lines? At the end of our evening, a few of our fancy friends shared their best pick-up lines with the rest of the group. We were thrilled the evening went so well and were blessed to have so many people willing to help make the night happen!

High Rollers Club

Last Wednesday was our first club following winter break, and I think we all agree it was good to be back!  We started the night with some hang/dance time where leaders and students were able to catch up on all the awesome things they did over break.  We played a few rounds of “Cross the river”, a classic younglife mixer, and then spiced things up with an egg toss that got really messy really fast… but that’s cool, because we love messy!   We then had Mark come up and lead us in some fast fun songs, and then slowed it down with a few worship songs.  Lastly, I gave a short club talk and then finished the night off with a time to share prayer requests.  Club was a blast, and our students are already anxiously counting down the days until next Wednesday night’s club!

Winter Camp 2012

Last weekend myself, two leaders and four Capernaum students headed up to Oakbridge for weekend winter camp.  Although we were a small group, that definitely did not stop us from having fun!  From the time we arrived on Friday night until Sunday when we were leaving, we literally did not stop.  From club, to messy games, to a midnight concert, I'd say we pretty much did it all.  We were the only Capernaum group, the rest of the campers were typical younglife students.  It was awesome to see our students interacting with the other high schoolers, and vise versa.  My favorite part about the weekend was seeing one of our students Brett come out of his shell.  For the most part Brett typically keeps to himself, isn't very social, and at club likes to hangout in the corner alone.  This weekend I saw an incredible transformation.  Brett's whole demeanor changed.  He was interacting with people, participating in games, and even sharing during cabin time.  Not only did Brett let loose at camp, but when Brett came to club after we came home, he was no longer sticking to his routine of staying in the corner and not talking to anybody.  The first thing he said to me when he got to club was, "Tayren, I had so much fun at camp!"  After club I was talking to Brett's mom and she told me that Brett has not stopped talking about camp since he got home.  She also shared with me that highrollers is really the first thing in Brett's life that he has ever really cared about and looked forward to.  I couldn't help but think how incredible that was!

I am always in awe of the work God is doing through this ministry.  I'm excited to see what he has in store next!
